Week #2

I've fallen into a routine.  Wake up at 6:15a.  Jump in the shower. Have breakfast at 7:30a with Krishna, my friend from Iowa State. Return to building #9 to wait for Baijun for our morning walk to campus.

The cool spring air feels good as we briskly walk around the lake of no-name, and move aside to let the early morning joggers and bike riders pass by, commenting how smart the young couples are for taking advantage of the morning light to pose for their wedding photos, all the while the sound of Chinese classical music floats over the lake and thru the woods.

Its a rough commute, right?  But someone has do it.

Even nicer was the surprise announcement that my afternoon was free to explore the city.  We chose to visit the Lama Temple.

It had been the residence of Prince Yong.  When he became emperor, he donated his residence to the Buddhist lamas.

There, we found incense sticks being burned, people praying in front of the different images of Buddha (past, present, future, enlightenment, medicine.  Even one over 18 feet tall!
